DEEP DIVE
Bitcoin vs real estate: what is the better store of value?
In the last year I have thought very deeply about the advantages of bitcoin over real estate as a store of value. According to the consulting firm McKinsey, more than 67% of the world’s net wealth is stored in real estate (Endurance, 2021). The monetary premium that a property carries as a store of value accounts for up to ⅔ of its value. This is due to the increased demand for real estate since 1971, when the US government decided that the dollar should be decoupled from gold, causing money to lose its function as a store of value. However, real estate cannot compete with bitcoin as a store of value. Bitcoin is rarer, more liquid, easier to move and harder to confiscate. This is a huge opportunity for bitcoin. The value of all real estate in the world reached $326.5 trillion in 2020 (Tostevin, 2021). In comparison, the value of all bitcoin ever mined pales in at roughly $400 billion. That’s just 0.12% of the value of global real estate. There is a substantial growth ahead for bitcoin when compared to the market capitalisation of real estate. I published an article that explores the topic and the opportunities that arise from it in depth.

WORTH TO KNOW
Is bitcoin back from the dead?
Bitcoin has rallied faster than anyone expected. However, one should be careful. We know that historical bitcoin bear markets have lasted up to three years. IDEAS OF INTEREST
Thought: free Bitcoin education
Free education is important. Information and copyright gatekeeping by universities and governments is an issue. This has created a consensus of opinion in many areas and keeps people from understanding new things that challenge our existing system (like Bitcoin). The quality of information does not depend on a central authority that approves it, but on its content. We can create other mechanisms that check this. These include AI, charm intelligence, and so on. Publish a bad and wrong article about Bitcoin. Within minutes you have thousands of Twitter users dying to rip up the article apart. In my future newsletters I will go into more detail on this topic and the role of Bitcoin in particular.
European Bitcoiners
The website europeanbitcoiners.com is an education and community initiative to provide free educational content for those who want to learn about Bitcoin. The platform offers translations of Bitcoin-related articles and books in all major European languages. I became aware of the platform when an article of mine “How Bitcoin Uses Energy” was translated into Italian a few months ago. The article was initially published on Arman The Parman’s website, who is a highly respected figure in the Bitcoin space. In future newsletters, you will hear more of that topic.
